LPGA Swings into T-Town

The Marathon Classic, presented by Owens Corning and Owens-Illinois is one of the longest running events on the LPGA Tour. Founded in 1984, the tournament is played at Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania.

The top three players in the world made the trip to the Toledo Region this year. Lydia Ko (World No. 1) returned to defend her 2014 Marathon Classic title, Toledo native Stacy Lewis (World No. 2), Inbee Park (World No. 3) and Brittany Lincicome (winner of this year’s first LPGA major championship) also played at the event which took place July 16-19th.

However, it was South Korean, Chella Choi, who achieved the win.  The victory is the first of her career, and she won in dramatic fashion in a one-hole playoff with fellow compatriot Ha Na Jang. Choi finished at -14 for the week.

Next year’s tournament takes place July 11-17, 2016.
