Toledo Ranks Highly for Fastest Growing Gross Regional Product

In the last five years, Toledo’s Gross Regional Product (GRP) has grown 25.3%, which is 5% more than the U.S. National Average. The rapid growth of Toledo’s GRP has ranked the area seventh on a Headlight Data List that ranked 52 mid-sized metros across the country.

In 2015, Ohio was the 8th largest exporting state and exported goods to 215 countries and territories. The Toledo Region accounted for 7.4% of the State’s exports at about $4 billion. The Toledo metro area over the past five years has had an average growth of 15%, which places the area as having one of the top ten growth rates of exports in the US.  About 11,000 jobs are directly tied to exports and about 25,000 indirect jobs tied to exports.  89% of the exporters in Ohio are small and medium sized enterprises.

Many of the area’s top employers are major exporters including Fiat Chrysler, First Solar, Sauder, Libbey, Whirlpool, Andersons, and BP Husky.
